Course Description
Module 6 will cover the following topics: Diagnosis and management of neurologic and orthopedic disease.
Orthopedic conditions involving the neonatal and juvenile avian patient are critical for the avian veterinarian to understand and be able to attend to. Diseases and conditions involving the skeletal system of avian neonates and juveniles will have life-long effects on posture, handling, proper perching capabilities and potentially behavior-related issues. Congenital defects, environmental issues creating orthopedic problems, infectious conditions and traumatic injuries will be discussed.
It will be essential for the avian veterinarian to be able to understand, address and correct these problems when the condition is first noted. Seizures and neurologic diseases are both challenging and frustrating. This session will discuss diagnosis and treatment of common etiologies for neurologic diseases in birds. Seizure management in birds will also be included in this discussion.
